Christmas Carols by the river

St Winnow won't let a pandemic stop us at Christmas!

Around 40 worshippers were blessed with a clear, starlit sky as we gathered on the banks of the River Fowey, at our beautiful church of St Winnow to celebrate our annual Christmas carol service.

This year was like no other as, due to Covid restrictions, we were not permitted to sing in church.  Rather than let this daunt us, however, in true St Winnow spirit, we just took our service outside, lit burning braziers, socially distanced, and sang out loud and clear!

The Revd Shelia Bawden introduced carols and readings, including the St Winnow rendition of The 12 Days of Christmas, a tradition started by our dear friend Francis, who sadly was not able to attend this year, but we were delighted that her children and grandchildren swelled the ranks in her place - we missed you Francis!

After an uplifting and light-hearted service, we were treated to restriction-compliant mince pies and mulled wine to warm us.  We were entertained throughout our refreshments by a happy band of carolers who weren't ready to stop so just kept singing!  What a perfect end!  We left filled with the Christmas spirit, ready to prepare for Christmas Day and the new year ahead.
